Let me re-phrase that statement.

I would drive with extreme caution until I got the unit fixed/ replaced. Mine was an intermittent fault, I'd never know when it would kick in. So if the light came on, yes, I'd still have brakes, just no ABS function.

When using ABS, you have to train yourself NOT to pump the pedal, you just stand on it and steer. The ABS system can modulate the pulses much faster anyway, and the wheel sensors monitor individual wheels to keep them rolling.

It's a risk I could not live with, I do a lot of interprovincial driving (at speed) and you do get stray buffaloes etc crossing the road, people driving the wrong way down the road.... I have enough trouble switching between the (stick-shift)SAAB and my company ride (the Toyota has the signal stalk on the right, and the wash/ wipe stalk on the left, and is an auto, you get the idea..). So I could stand on the brakes while forgetting that the ABS is not functioning...

What's the point of driving a turbocharged car with iffy brakes anyway?
Just my opinion, and 800 bucks poorer... :o)
