It's likely that your IAC valve is dirty or needs to be replaced. You can remove it and clean it out with brake cleaner or electric parts cleaner and then refit. Valve is large cylinder adjacent to throttle connected by 2 hoses and one electrical plug. You must remove the plastic intake manifold to see this. The valve inside the hose ports should flap back and forth when you rock it in your hand. If it does not, it is dirty and binding in its travel. Clean it with the above and q-tips until it rotates freely. While you are in there, replace all your vacuum hoses since a vacuum leak can cause similar symptoms, and vacuum hose is cheap.
