Possibility: check out Coolant Temp Sensor Posted by iveand [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Cold Start - More Questions - Dean Advice, Richard, Mon, 22 Nov 2004 10:35:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 96 900S 2.3NA that has had very similar starting problems in the cold for the past year. I had done vac hoses, techron, iac and tb cleaning, etc. etc. (also, fuel pump replaced by previous owner 2 years ago). nothing was really helping. I read on the C900 board that the coolant temp sensor (on intake manifold to right of TB) could be a possible problem. the readings from it tell the system whether the air mass meter values are accurate (they are not accurate when system is cold, I guess). Anyway, in my case, I replaced this sensor a month ago, and have been running great since. it hasn't been really cold yet, so I will see if the problem persists.
part is $25 at eeuroparts, and is easy to replace. you will lose a little bit of coolant.
anyone else can comment on the reasonability of this solution, but it seems to make sense. I played around with the leads on the sensor. if I jumper them, (no resistance), then the engine sputters and almost dies. When I disconnect the sensor (infinite resistance) then it also runs a bit weird. It definitely has impact on how the car idles. This is what made me feel it was at least a possible culprit.
