I have not done this project. You can get most of the job done by pulling the emergency release lever behind the back seat, but you would have to contend with a some other issues.
The 5th bow is latched to the tonneau cover with hooks, the hooks are engaged by a sliding latch that is operated by the 5th bow latch motor. You would need to disengage the latch to get the 5th bow down and reengage the latch to hold it. You could use a Tech II or rig up relays and a switch to bypass the control unit. The motor engages and disengages by reversing polarity.
Tonneau cover latches are controlled via cables going to tonneau motor assembly in the trunk. You would have to remove the RR trunk liner to access every time you raise/lower the top or fashion a bracket and handle and locate in the car.
Possible glass breakage and tearing of seats. When putting the top down, first the 5th bow comes up all the way, then the tonneau, then the top starts to lower into the storage compartment. As the top is lowered, the 5th bow has to be adjusted to fit as well otherwise the 5th bow will hit the rear of storage compartment, bind and break the glass. Also the 5th bow has to move around the rear head rest.
And finally, the top is HEAVY. It will take 2 or 3 people to operate.
My suggestion is to not fool with it. Put the top up and leave it up or sell it and get a 9-3 or better yet a 9-3SS convertible.
Good luck,
Steve
