With front wheel snow tires only, you'll very much compromise the handling of your car, possibly to a dangerous degree. You'll have the traction you're looking for, but only during acceleration. The geometry of the car will be GREATLY upset when you apply your brakes on ice and/or snow. The front tires will bite and the rears will be pushing because they're not grabbing proportionately, if at all. This could cause the back end to do some things that you won't be happy with during wet or icy conditions. Put snows on all four wheels.
