You see it is a little bit more tricky than that.
Saab don't differ between new and old bolts, or new and old torque specs.
Since the recommendations from Saab is to replace the cylinder head bolts when gasket is replaced, the new lower torque apply automatically.
With a retorque, they just recommend to use the new lower torque specs on all bolts since the old bolt design doesn't exist anymore in their eyes.
It's probably very few that are aware of the change of bolts around 97.
On this board you meet people that care a lot and are passionate for different things and that try to get to the bottom of it, be it oil quality, service intervals, tires or suspension upgrades to name a few.
In the big picture it might not matter but we are having a lot of fun researching and debating it and hopefully being able to help some people that come across this site.
But as you might have realized, as more you read and learn, as more confused you get, that's at least the case with me.
