I don't think there is much to 'align' on these cars. I would like to see an add saying '90k service just done, and a list of items replaced (chuckle).

Days of hauling a washer and dryer are long gone. Appliances are bigger, hatch opening is smaller than the C900, back seats do not fold down all the way. Original 16-inch rims bend easily.

My 96 SET was vary reliable until about 80k miles, with the exception of small warranty repairs and the now infamous serpentine belt & idler pulleys. Most of the repairs and maintenance I have done since then seem normal for a car close to 100k miles. No problems with the 5-spd manual, clutch or clutch cable (yet). Shift linkage on mine may be going tho.

Conservatively, my car is worth about $3.5, after spending about 1.5k on a combination of mechanic and DIY repairs and maintenance in the last year, including 30k service items, new tires, small repairs and parts.

-inspection: $70
-tires: $550 including labor to straighten another bent Viking rim
-intercooler: $300 Repair air leaks in IC inlet/outlet, hose, sticking boost control valve etc.
-30k service: $450 parts, combination mech. labor and DIY. Largest cost was $125 for a new front O2 sensor. Best deal was a used cooling fan on ebay for $67 delivered, instead of $300 list.
-rear brakes: $250 or $150 diy including replacing a caliper.

For next year, I am budgeting about $2-2.5k. Much less than car payments on a new car.

-Engine inspection and compression test
-Preventive maintenance (new water pump, coolant and vac hoses, idler pulley, MTF drain and flush, power steering hoses etc.)
-Body work to repair two rust spots
-New IC, hoses, bypass valve
-Two new rims
-Front suspension, including possibly strut mounts
-Front brakes

If all goes well, another $1-2k for upgrades, including suspension, shift linkage, and possibly a non-stock cold air intake and filter.
