This was my list of things to check on a turbo from my own experience with a 96 SET. Some would not apply to a 900S non-turbo (like the DI cassette). I have been told the 95-96 is not worth much as a trade (less than 2k), so you should be able to get one cheap from a private owner.

You can add electric seats to the list, mine are still ok but I don't adjust them much. Check the costs of the parts you will likely be replacing on eEuroparts, saabsite.com etc., some can be expensive like parts for the AC.
The belt and idler pulleys unless recently done, plus waterpump if any sign of trouble there, would be on top of my list. Not sure if there is any way to tell the fuel pump is about to fail (mine went out on the highway recently with no warning). Getting stranded when those go out may be more more trauma for her than for you.
