I'm worried that maybe the waterpump pulley has eaten a hole in the aluminum engine cover.
The waterpump can function perfectly even with a bad bearing that allow the pulley to tilt inwards towards the engine cover. It is very little clearance between the pulley and engine cover.
It's difficult to see if the mechanic is not thinking about it when replacing the water pump and even more difficult to see when everythig is installed again.
I hope it is something simple as a failed crank shaft seal instead?
