This is an amazingly timely post. I have a 95 900SE convertible. Yesterday, I noticed that the light above my rear view mirror did not come on. My symptoms are exactly the same as yours. I removed the plastic light fixture, and tested the light bulbs with my digital volt-ohm meter. All bulbs showed continuity. I put the bulbs back in the fixture, and tested continuity back to where the spade lugs connect. I still had continuity. I tested voltage on the wires... both outer wires showed 12 volts to the center wire, which is the negative (ground). I reconnected the wires, and the center light does not go on. The two reading lights are all right. I'm stumped.
