Sensor Related Problem seems to be my theory too Posted by iveand [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Cold Start Update/Status - Dean needs your help again, Richard, Fri, 14 Jan 2005 12:15:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
An update after being away (sorry, but was working out some access issues with Scott):
If I get the car running (it does sometimes), then shut it down: removal of crank sensor will prevent it starting. removal of hall sensor does not seem to affect starting. It will still start without it plugged in. So, the injectors seem to go off the crank sensor. Again, CPS controls FP relay. (??)
Back to my problem, I am stuck. I think I have fuel (the plugs are wet ... black and a bit oily, but seem wet), I think I smell fuel, but it starts and dies similar to having a fuel problem. IAC does work and is clean. AMM swap did not solve anything (That would be fuel again).
Is it odd that the car does not behave differently w/ the hall sensor unplugged? But it will run fine after it "warms up". If this hall sensor is responsible for things until the ECU gets info from other things ... maybe I have found my problem? I wish I had a spare distributor to swap out and test.
Richard, does your car fire immediately the first time? I have noticed recently on mine that it will crank a lot without even firing once for quite a while. Then, after about the 5th try, it will finally fire. It used to fire immediately, but then die. Now it is hard for this to even happen. So something continues to degrade. I am seriously suspecting the crank sensor.
Dean, my indy had me "hot wire" the fuel pump. From top of fuse 7, run a jumper to bottom of fuse 32. Then the always powered interior lights are running the fuel pump. With that done, I can hear a water gushing sound on the fuel rail ... so the fuel pump itself it good. That was his test, at least. So, if I don't have fuel, it must be a sensor or relay that is not telling it to pump. Basic question: doesn't the fuel pump always pump, but the injectors open and close to let in fuel? I guess I am learning the basics still. What tells the injectors to open?
Furthermore, since my car is not firing right away anymore, should I suspect spark? If a coil is bad, could this be? AGain, after it starts it runs GREAT the rest of the day (even yesterday in 5 below weather).
SORRY for the LONG post with many random thoughts. As you can tell I have not been able to post for about 10 days now.
