As I mentioned in my previous post, I got a P0133 (front O2 sensor) CEL. In reading old threads, people have mentioned that corrosion on the O2 sensor to exhaust mounting, or corrosion on the battery ground (to engine) connection can cause this. I've definitely got some corrosion issues to clean up, but I don't see how either of these could affect a 4-wire O2 sensor. My understanding is that two wires are for the heater, and the other two wires are for the sensor, and ground through the exhaust pipe is not used. If you're *sure* that this is incorrect, please correct me !
As for the battery ground to the engine, this hardly seems like it would effect the O2 sensor directly, because the O2 sensor ground *and* the ECU ground (and every ground in the whole electrical system) would be slightly higher-- it would be like having a battery whose voltage was slighly lower than normal and decreased with current (i.e., a small series ground resistor). Surely if this were the case, there would be electrical
weirdness all over the place.
Anyway, I'm trying to gain some understanding of all this, not just make the CEL go away. So ...
Q: If someone has made a P0133 (on a car w/ a 4-wire O2 sensor) go away just by cleaning up ground connections, please let me know.
Q: If I'm wrong about the 4-wire sensor not using exhaust as a signal ground, please let me know.
