The timing chain tensioner is pulled very easily. It is a rachet type thing (kind of like a zip tie) that is pushed in and cannot back out without pulling it out and "reseting it". If you take this out, you can measure (w/ a caliper or something fairly accurate) the length that the plunger has extended. I believe that saab recommends it be less than 13mm, but mine was at 17mm last winter and the saab indy I go to said that was still "OK". I will probably have to do something some day. Anyway, if more than that, the stretch in the chain is too much, and you have issues.
