People just call it "water" pump out of habit. It is actually the Coolant Pump. It is on the side of the engine below the idler pulleys . The serpentine belt drives the coolant pump pulley, the pulley turns the pump, the pump circulates coolant (antifreeze) through the engine and radiator. You can't see it very well, but there are diagrams online.
Costs about $110 online (for example, eEuroparts.com, p/n 8822793G), and should be around 1-1.5 hrs of labor at an independent mechanic. Some dealers charge as much as $500 parts and labor, but any service shop can do it for less.
