EPC list the original p/n as 4490181, replaced by 4901724. Perhaps the new cable is not as good as the old (?)
saabsite claims on their website that "...High pedal effort is caused by lack of lubrication at the release bearing sleeve-support interface which is often very rusty and galled on disassembly. The diaphragm clutch assemblies pedal effort increases with clutch disk wear. Adding grease to the cable is a good idea regardless."
