I think you are refering to the piece which has the mirror attached, right? There's a flexible wire spring which holds this on. You can remove it by making a "tool" out of a small binder clip (the ones with a V-shaped black end and two metal clips). Remove one of the clips to use as a hook for the spring. Position the mirror to the up-most position so you can get at it from underneath. Slip the hook inside and grab onto the wire spring. While holding the mirror with one hand, pull out on the spring until it releases the mirror.
Replacement is simple, it just snaps back into the wire spring.
