I don't think an explosion will be a problem.....But I claim NO responsibility for your singed nuts....on the car or otherwise (ha ha)
The slight difference in brightness might be attributed to a reflector on the flashlight??, or the LED is stuffed back a bit in plastic of the SAAB key, so you don't see the whole envelope, or one of the batteries is actually a slow-drain type??
