I would push the ears slightly back together on the U-joint, but yes, your concern is real. It is a chance that they break, you never know.
The same goes for the aluminum housing on the gear box. You need to take the motor off the black bracket and put it up in a vise and carefully twist the gear box housing back into shape before installing the bracket kit.
The drive shaft HAS to be twisted back into straight shape, other wise it will not work properly.
If you look at the design. The potentiometer that you take the values from and enter into the TSAS ECU is located before the "twist" and the linkage that locks the 5th bow to the tonneau cover is right there at the potentiometer.
So if the shaft is twisted, the tonneau cover and 5th bow latch mechanism is not going to be in sync with just relaying on a single potentiometer.
