Check to see that the low oil pressure lamp works at lamp check. Whatever the issue, you do not want to be blind to a loss of oil pressure. Can you slacken the belt and spin the pullies (3) and feel for wobble?
Then clear the belt from the crankshaft pully and start the engine and see what you hear with all of the belt driven accessories removed from the situtation.
If then quiet, feel the alternator, coolant pump, A/C and Ps wheels for wobble or axial play.
So there is an approach to investigating the problem, from minor to severe. Hopefully you find a pully or coolant pump probem.
If the engine made noise, that reequires some serious invesigation. If the oil pressure warning light is not functional, you should probably avoid driving the vehicle. If you have a good warning system and do not get a warning while driving, you can probably drive to the dealer and have the oil pan dropped, the oil pickup screen inspected and cleaned. And do a general inspection for sludging of the oil. Also have the oil pressure regulator cap, washer, spring and piston dropped to make sure that the piston is moving ok. If scoring is not severe, it can be smoothed out and put back in service.
