Do not over look the obvious. Snapping cables are a sign that your clutch will need to be replaced. You can deny it, kick and scream, but in the long run, you will come back to this.
The gears 1-5 are pretty resilient. Unlike the reverse gear, for which minimal griding would mean certain death. Did you harm your gears? Probably. Was it catastrophic, probably not, unless you REALLY grinded them. Again the construction of gears 1-5 is pretty robust.
Change your cable, try to get another 15K miles out of it, and then change it again when you change to a new clutch. You got some time to start budgeting for this upcoming expense.
