I was about to do the same thing as you, but for different reasons. I was hoping to rebuilt my transmission. Unfortunately, after getting the Saab 900 Manual transmission manual and looking at what I was getting into, I became scared. It appears, and I never done anything more than look at the pictures in the manual, that you need a large number of special tools to properly rebuilt the transmission. There seems to be tools for removing certain gears, aligning certain gears and measuring various degrees of parts inside the transmission. After looking at all that was necessary, I decided it was probably easier, in fact MUCH easier, just to replace the transmission.
