I should try to be more precise, but it's been over ten years since I even looked at an engine with the head off...

Auto-Rx: 1000-1500 miles plus another 1000-1500 "rinse" phase for one application, based on web site and other people. I am hoping it will dissolve what may be in the oil pan, galleys, pick up scrn, lifters, etc. Two applications recommended for over 100k miles. Never used it before.

I wanted a professional mechanic to do some tests and confirm I have a good engine in the car before starting on a long laundry list of other work. Especially when I saw what it looked like when we were fixing valve cover leaks. Warm and cold idle are both rough, almost like older euro imports.

When I first saw what the engine looked like, I tried one application of Amsoil Engine Flush (that's the 20 min at idle stuff). It is not like sludge, more like coffee grounds, or small dried corn flakes covered with oil. Only the pic of the timing chain sprocket shows it well.

Plugs were put in about 5k miles ago (R7), looked clean to me, but I will check again today. Maybe try to regap per your earlier posts, or put R6-series back in if they look fouled, but should not have layers of carbon on them yet (I hope!)

You can't really tell where the air is going on this car, w/o taking a bunch of stuff off.

Valve cleaner was the kind you add to the gas (Lubro-Moly Ventil Sauber), two cans in two tanks of gas.

Can't say I wasn't warned a few years ago when people started pulling the heads on even newer 96+ cars to replace headgaskets and found the same thing... didn't pay attention of course.
