You car has a T-5 engine management system. There are 2 Enigne coolant temp (ECT) sensors on the car.
One is located in the rear (driver's side) of the cylinder head. It has two black wires protruding from the sensor to a connector about 4-5 inches away. This sensor is connected to the Intergrated Central Electronics Module (ICE) and is used by ICE to determine when to use the rad fan, determine if A/C should be allowed and is sent to the Main Instrument Unit (MIU) for use by the temp gauge. It IS NOT used to for engine fuel/air calculations.
These sensors fail a lot and not always fail completely. I have seen up to a 60F degree offset when compared to the T-5 ECT sensor. In some cases the T-5 will show 240F on Tech II where the ICE will show 180F and the fan is still not on.
The T-5 ECT is located in the intake manifold between #3 and #4 runners (I think, it could be #2 and #3). Anyway, it has a blue connector that attaches directly to sensor (no pigtail like the ICE ECT sensor. The sensor rarely fails. Like maybe 2 in 10.5 years with Saab for me.
Good luck,
Steve
