He's wrong. Don't mess with it at all, there's no need. You pry on the lever at the trans to get the cable on, I've done hundreds. If it still feels stiff or crunchy then the trans needs to be pulled, the clutch checked and replaced, the collar and throw out bearing replaced, the axle seals replaced and anything else that is leaking, also change over to the latest synthetic oil for the transmission. good luck
