Fuel Pump Motor

My fuel pump died around 100k miles, no warning. Car was flat-bedded twice, once to get if off the interstate (on New Year's eve), then to get it in the shop.

The part that went out was actually the electric motor for the pump, which is made by Walbro (I think). I was able to find someone who would replace just the motor, but some shops are reluctant to do that.

When the motor starts to fail, it is likely to draw more current, overheat inside and then either burn out or blow the fuse, one or the other.

If I had to do it over again knowing what I know now, I would get a spare motor, and start shopping around for a place that will put it in for a reasonable price. Replacing the fuel filter at the same time is a good idea too.

The motor is around $125 online, the pump assembly is around $450 (saabsite.com etc.) You need the VIN of your car to match the motor correctly. Good luck.
