While replacing the transmission, I removed the tension from the belt. I inspected the water pumpt pully and noticed that it rotates freely (like an idler pully without grease!).

Q1. Is the pully attached to the Water Pump supposed to rotate freely or is it supposed to be packed with grease like the idler pully?

I have been inspecting my transmission after post operation. I noticed that the driver side shaft seal is leaking. The seal is new. So I am curious to the following:

Q2: Could I have overfilled the Tranny? I used a full 2 quarts (whatever is in the Saab MTF0063 bottles)! Will the leak stop?

Q3: Is there any way to check the seal without removing the shaft? I think I know the answer to this one. I am hoping for a miracle.

Q4: Did I damage the shaft trying to get it in there? How hardy is the shaft?

I have not fully recuperated from the trauma of the past weekend, so my DIY gage is running on empty right now. I think I have just about enough energy to do an engine and MT oil change and that is about it. :)
