...is unusual, but then again I keep trying to apply logic to this car w/o much success (sigh).
In my case there is a little more play in the shaft of the old pump than in a new one. The pulley does spin freely, but stops quickly. I assume that the impeller (spelling?, the part that moves the coolant) has to work against the liquid inside the pump chamber so that makes it different from an idler or an alternator.
If your pump was replaced and not leaking, I would not touch it. Mine is original, I have been told it is on borrowed time at 100k, and there is a small leak somewhere in the cooling system that I have not found yet.
Btw, I don't see how overfilling by 0.2 quarts can do any harm. I assume you measured what came out and "panned" for scrap metal? Out of curiosity, what did the oil you drained out of the transmission look like? I did mine last weekend, it was black and opaque, not at all like others have reported.
There is always some oil on my transmission shaft. Not much, and I am not losing any measurable amount. It has been like that for at least a year, likely more. I plan to ignore it until time comes for a new clutch.
...then again, if I were trying to make my nice, civilized 900SE over into an A4-killer Viggen, I might pay more attention... <grin>
