Funny you should mention that... (went back to your post just to make sure I understood what you meant).
Not sure "trouble", exactly, but he took longer getting the boot fitted in place than getting the joint separated or things back together. I did not watch every minute, and he took his time. No complaints, fifty bucks for almost an hour of labor, lift and no grease under my fingernails for once.
I checked the balljoint myself, could be moved around by hand, but it was tight. I hope that is a good thing and not because dirt is in the joint already.
I wish there was some way to surface-protect all these parts from salt and such. I mean the four boots at the upper and lower balljoints and the two smaller ones at the stabilizer links. I wonder if silicone spray every fall would help, but I suspect anything you put on the out side will be gone in a few weeks.
At a minimum, looks like the boots on the lower balljoints should be replaced along with any other suspension work done like struts, bushings, etc. I can now see why people do that in Europe where paying mechanics good money for preventive maintenance and not just repairs is more common.
My hat off to anyone who does the entire front suspension in his garage, not to mention posts about the experience (Asia, Dip...)
