Windscreen washer tubing system

I'm investigating why the RHS windscreen washer squirter on my '96 900S is not letting through any water. I cleaned out the two small nozzle holes, but that wasn't the problem. Then I looked at the tubing, under the hood, from the LHS squirter (which works fine).
There is a length of tubing from a T joint below the LHS nozzle that connects to a small angled coupling, which is then connected via a small length of tubing to the RHS nozzle.
The problem is that this angled coupling doesn't seem to be working properly. Instead of the water passing round the angle to the small length of tubing, it instead squirts out through the small hole in the head of the angled coupling itself.
Could anyone who has worked on this system advise what may be wrong? What is that hole for?
Thanks! Julian
