What you are describing are the in-line washer check valves. The check valves keep the washer fluid from gravity flowing back to the reservoir, and therefore allow the washer circuit to squirt fluid more quickly. The washer check valves can be purchased from the dealer, or an on-line source like eEuroparts.com, for a few dollars each. There are also instructions on this BB for repairing the washer check valves using a rubber glove.
On my 1998 900SET, there are four windshield/headlight/hatch glass washer line check valves.
1) One "in-line" check valve is located about 12" from the washer pump, in the washer line that goes to the rear hatch, just before that line disappears through a hole in the inner sheet metal fender.
2) One "Tee" check valve is located behind the left (driver's) side headlight in the washer line that feeds both the headlight washers.
3) One "Tee" check valve is located under the engine hood in the washer tube that attaches the left (driver's) windshield washer nozzle.
4) One "in-line" check valve is located under the engine hood in the washer tube that attaches the right (passenger's) windshield washer nozzle.
On some NG900 models, I understand that the "in-line" check valve #4 is not present. The "Tee" check valve #3 is actually located mid-way between the two windshield washer valves and feeds both the driver and passenger washer nozzles.
