I have a 2000 9-3 base model in silver. For the record I'm in Cleveland, Ohio. My car gets all the salt it can handle, and more. At my 5000mi service I had the dealer touch up some black paint/undercoating in the rear wheel wells, but now it's peeling again. I called the dealer for another warranty service and the service guy told me that it's supposed to peel. He says the silver paint beneath the black paint is the real protection from rust, etc. I saw another car very similar to mine at a gas station with the exact same problem. My sample size is only 2 cars, but they both have the same problem...
My questions to the group are: Is this black paint supposed to peel? If so, why bother putting it on in the first place? Am I the only guy with this problem? Should I insist that the dealer fix this?
