I attended a Saab evening at my dealership as well, where we got a rep in from head office (Toronto). He would neither confirm nor deny that the hatch was gone. There is just too much evidence here to say that NOT every rep nor salesman is saying this. And I think I have followed the various conversations as closely as anyone.
It would be both counter-intuitive and counter-common sense to run off a hatch at a time when station wagons are becoming hot items again.
Saab has excellent coming-model security (being in Sweden as well as having worked a high-security industry - aviation - helps).
