There is no reliable information that the next 9-3 is going to have the engine you refer to. You're talking about the variable compression engine, it's actually a 1.6l inline 5, with about 40 psi of supercharger boost, and variable compression from 8 or so up to I think about 14. In fact there's no information that this engine is even going to be on the market any time in the next few years. I think Auto News Weekly (or whatever it's called) reported that the engine would be in the new 9-3, but it's never been verified. A Saab dude at the Chicago Auto show told me they'd probably have the same engines they've got now for a while.
It's a constant topic on this board, the lack of any details of the next 9-3 being available. Everything is pretty much speculation and assurances from people who claim to know that the new 9-3 is gonna be awesome. take it for what it's worth.
