Chase held the lease on my old '97 900SET which I traded in Feb. 2000. About 4 months prior to the end of the lease, they called me and offered a $2,000 reduction on the buyout without negotiation if I were to pay off the 4 remaining months. I wasn't planning to keep the car.
I did the math and figured that if I sold the car for avg. black book that I would make about $1,000 on the deal. I didn't think it was worth the time or trouble to take out an ad, do test drives, title transfers, sales tax hassles, etc. for only $1,000, so I let it go.
You should start negotiating with Chase now, so that you will have an idea if you can live with the price. I suspect that they would be happy to know something off the buyout, especially if the buyout price is in excess of the black book value. Don't go with the Kelly's Blue Book value. Dealers tend to use the little pocket black book, the brand name escapes me. Average prices tend to be at least $1,000 lower than the Blue Book.
Yes, I always dreamed of driving a SAAB convertible, too. Now I do.
Good luck with Chase
