I rent pretty much GM all the time on business trips, because my company has a contract with Avis.
Malibus are quite acceptable, and nicely anonymous to cops and the like. They drive well in most conditions.
I'm with Noel, I prefer the Olds cars myself. However, the back seat cushions on the Alero coupes are too thin, according to a coworker who had to sit back there.
But I find the small Chevys and Pontiacs (Cavaliers and Sunfires) to be barely acceptable, especially the Sunfire with its over-wrought orangeness in the dash illumination. The styling of most of the Pontiacs seems too juvenile for me, but YMMV. Another thing is when you flip up the sun visor after using it, it fairly well CLANGS into place, with the lack of sound deadening/insulation in the roof. Talk about a cheap sound....OTOH, it's probably little more than half the price of a 9-3.
Can't stand any of the Buicks.
Bill
