Bill,
I think that Consumer Reports is one of many sources of information available to us as car buyers. I have found that the best test is myself.
You are paying for whatever car you choose and will have to live with it.
It is amusing to me that many of the complaints reviewers have about the 9-3 are the things that I find great about it. I have a 4 month old 2001 9-3SE convertible with an automatic transmission. It is far from being sluggish. When I was looking for a new car, I drove the base model with a five speed and found it to have plenty of power.
Go and see for yourself. I test drove the BMW 325I convertible that Consumer Reports loves and I found that I was more confortable with the Saab.
Happy Hunting,
Steve
