I have a base 2000 9-3 and interpret the gauge like I did the boost gauge on my 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (which was calibrated in PSI). There should not be any damage to any turbo or engine as long as the max boost is not sustained over long periods of time. Also, a properly functioning waste gate will prevent any overboost or damage. I have 45,000 miles on my Saab, much of it at autobahn speeds, and have no problems. It's a US spec car that I treat like I did my T-Bird -- regular maintenance (good quality oil changed as recommended), let the car warm up before I get on it, and cool down after running it hard. This is the best turbo I have owned and should last a long time. I sold my T-bird after 13 years and 141,000 miles (it was a tough decision to sell it, but I was being transferred to Europe and needed something with more room that could go fast). It was still running with the original turbo, and the motor was still good and strong. I expect the Saab to do better!
