Your written warranty is the legal specific. Your relationship with your regular dealer may have something to do with their attitude and the ease of having their cooperation if a problem develops. Both are concerns worthy of your attention. However, the real issue for most of is both the health of the car's mechanicals and the validity of the warranty. While full synthetic oil may well go 10,000 or more in some applications, it just is not good practice. More frequent changes are necessary in the estimation of virtually any mechanic. On the warranty side, read the manual, the specific part is only a few lines. When read, almost no driver at all qualifies for the long maintenance period on oil changes. The exceptions are such, and this is true for virtually all automotive manufacturers, that any normal use of a car means hard service and the consequent shorter oil change interval. There is good engineering logic behind that warranty rule. You do go to the grocery store, or a restaurant, or the post office near your home, right? Ever drive to lunch or other errands from work? On those short trips, the engine never gets to sustained full operating temperature (the water temp guage is not the true measure of this by the way). As such, the oil is deteriorating faster than it would if you did *solely* long distance highway driving. My own thought is to treat such a special car with the extra care it deserves and change the oil and filter as often as possible. Viggens need to be preserved and maintained so that they are around for many years of blowing the doors off the competition. The short oil change periods are sometimes referred to as "super maintenace", and that is good practice for the long life of any care. Just my opinion, but my cars' mechanicals tend to last forever.
