I wasn't real thrilled about how quick the boost came on and also I didn't like the huge boost taper towards the higher end of the rpm range. I want the car to last and the not so tranny friendly superfast boost build does not help, although it could be quite fun!
On the boost taper department, I do not have the patience and the time to do all of the experimentation you have done to try and reduce this problem. My ECU from Hirsch does not suffer such a large drop as the revs rise. It peaks at 13 psi at 3000 rpm and drops to around 10 by about 5000 rpm. The engineer at Hirsch said that the taper cannot be fully cured as the stock turbo limits are being pushed. I believe he said he programmed it to run about 920 degrees Celcius EGT. With the MBC the boost would drop all the way to stock by 5000.
Overall, I'd say that I am happier with the ECU mod, but I also still believe the MBC is a great low cost alternative for those people who wish to go that route. I wound up selling mine to a friend for his Seat Ibiza Cupra. It has a 1.8 turbo. Upon installation of the MBC, he burned up his clutch in about 5 minutes!!! He now has a stronger clutch and boy is his car quick!
I hope this explains enough to you. I definately don't want you to think I went to the Dark Side or something. If you would like to know any more info, just let me know.
Have fun!
