I'll back his statement up! I bought a brand new 2001 9-3 base in October 2001, and the 2-3 shift is the worst I have ever had of any car I've driven. I can actually feel the gears oh so lightly grinding because the synchronizers SUCK! There, I said it! The 2-3 shift SUCKS on my SAAB!
I've had it with being polite to my dealer and SAAB about this problem!
I've had the car in the shop twice for this problem, and a SAAB district rep told me that this would get better with age....I laughed at him when he said this to me over the phone. What a joke...if the car can't shift into 3rd gear smoothly at 1500 or 4000 miles, what makes it suddenly shift "smoothly" into 3rd gear later on in its life? Magic Beads? Slippery stuff trans additive?
And don't even go there with the "you don't know how to drive a stick" comment. I've logged over 200,000 miles in manual transmission cars and close to 20,000 miles in manual trans trucks. I had only one problem in all the 5 speed cars I've ever owned or driven prior to this car.
This transmission has to be the worst that I have ever driven or owned. Christ, my brothers 1984 Ford Escort shifted smoother than this $31,000 "luxury" vehicle.
