Break-in questions

I'm picking up my 2002 9-3 5 speed on Friday and want to be sure to break it in properly. In addition to the usual instructions in the manual, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to ensure I do this correctly? Also, I am planning on taking a 1200 mile round trip, over a long weekend, in early April. Will my car be ready for that or will I need to take lots of breaks along the way? Thanks for any suggestions!
