Back it up to the CRT so I can see it! Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: How much below blook should I expect to pay?, Lee, Fri, 10 May 2002 23:44:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Condition, condition and condition, the three most important things about any car. Does retail for wholesale make sense? That is if the dealer is going to buy the car "back of book" say $3,000-5,000 than a retail consumer should consider a car being offered for the wholesale book amount as a reasonable deal. Another rule of thumb is that you can't pay too little for an edgy car. It's always much more expensive to buy a car cheap and have to "recon" it, that is fix it up, than to buy a car that's right to begin with. Like home remodeling, fixing a car up can be twice as expensive and take three times as long as orginally estimated. An exceptional car could be worth somewhat more than wholesale to a retail buyer if it's nice enough. Saab now offers Certified cars with a six year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper factory warranty. This definitely pushes the value above the wholesale mark.
Also consider a new one. With all the incentives and specials your payment on leasing a new one could be less than purchasing a used one. The benefit being that you've got a new car and won't be spending a dime on the car other than gas for at least three years.
