Although I myself am curious about the relative reliability of the 9-3 model, I can tell you that my experience with Saabs is that you cannot treat them like a Honda, and expect similar results. Most Honda owners neglect scheduled maintenance, and basically just go to jiffy lube once every 3k or so, then replace stuff when it breaks (which usually is never on a honda until about 150k miles, when everything suddenly breaks at once...exceptionally engineered to do just that).
With a Saab or any other fine european automobile, you must do the scheduled maintenance on time, and be prudent about preventative maintenance...otherwise it is my experience that these cars will bite you in the ass. Treat them well though, and they'll last long beyond the Hondas and Toyotas of the world, and give you a thoroughly more pleasurable driving (and riding) experience.
