Troglite is correct...this is just another way to say what I am saying. They can try and pull stuff so that they keep the rebate as profit, but that is wrong. Just ignore the terminology and don't get wrapped up with where the rebate gets deducted becuase it just doesn't matter -- it is just math. The basic formula to get to a good price is (for any car):
(Invoice + Some Delaer Profit - Rebate)
Now I am ignoring the holdback which doens't matter - consider that off the table.
Based on Edmunds I will use the formula for a 9-3 SE 4 door BASE vehicle (NO metalic paint or options)
Known Inputs:
MSRP is $28,620
Invoice is $26,964
Rebate is $4,000
Delaer Profit (Premium over the invoice) - Can be $0 to $1344 (Max = MSRP minus Invoice)
SO
$26,964 (Invoice)
+ 200 (Your choice of what profit you want the dealer to make)
- 4,000 (The Rebate)
-----------
$23,164 (Vehicle Sales Price)
You need to add Tax, Title, License, document fee to the sales price and that will be your amount financed.
Just figure out the number based on this formula and using KBB or Edmunds as a guide for invoice pricing of each option and make a deal.
