I have towed my 13' and 15' foot boat with my 98 900SE 5DR. The big boat weighed a total of 1,800lbs for the boat, motor, and trailer. The car had no problems pulling it although the clutch was not thirlled with each stop and start. The brakes also faded real fast stopping. Installing the trailer harness was a chore (about 6 hours on a saturday) but the hitch from etrailer.com was a breeze (cost about $125).
I have since went and purchased a used nissan pickup specifically for hauling the fleet. In my mind the cost of the truck was what I would ultimately pay for a new clutch, cooling sytem, and brakes.
I would not reccomend pulling the 2500lb boat more that twice a season. If it's more than that get a truck.
