Some SAABs come pre-wired for with a trailer plug for the boat trailer lights. Look in your trunk by the left and rear lights you will see access panels to get at the bulbs for replacement. If you open them up and are lucky there will either be a plug for a harness wire or there won't be. If there is one you can get a low cost harness from the dealer to use. If there isn't than you have to either have the dealer install a harness which cost about $230 for the materials and about 4 hours to install (about $300).

What I did was to buy the a afermarket harness from etrailer.com which cost $50 and installed it myself in about 4 hourss. I requires installing a fuse and a wire to the positve lead of the battery. Next you have to snake the wire through the firewall and to the back under the rugs or the side of the car which means removing some access panels. This is not a tough job but it is time consuming.

This adapter is required as the SAAB electrical system will not tolerate simply splicing into the rear tailight wires. SAAB has a sophisticated system to tell you when a bulb is burnt out and utilizes the computer. The system that I am describing does not draw current from the saab wiring harness in only takes the signal when you step on the brake or use the blinkers.

It is required by law to have trailer lights in all of the states I know.

PS: Mine has worked now for 2 years with no problems what so ever, although I do disconnect the harness between the boat and trailer when launching to avoid shorts.
