I've been in love with my '99 SE since buying it about 3 months ago. But it really tried my patience yesterday while driving up from central VA to the Jersey shore. While getting off the exit, the steering felt VERY heavy. I pulled over and checked the power steering fluid and it was completely empty. I had checked it before the trip and it was fine. Fluid spray all over the pulley side of the engine bay suggests that something has blown.
Since I was only a few miles from my destination I figured I would just limp the rest of the way then call Saab roadside service, since the car is still under warranty. That's what I did. About 2 hours later, a flatbed showed up to take my car about 1.5 hours away to the nearest dealer in Shrewsbury, NJ. This was last night.
I should preface the rest by saying that I'm on vacation and only have my rental property until Saturday, 10am. That, and I just had the car in for 30k service 1 week ago (the previous owner apparently skipped it).
I followed up this morning to see when the car would be ready. The dealer told me it *might* be done by Friday. If they had to order parts, it would be longer. Given my rental situation, this has me a bit concerned.
So I called Saab customer service. They are telling me "let's just hope the car is done." If not, they might pay $35/day for a rental car for three days. That means about 12+ hours of driving plus massive inconvenience (see below). This really does't seem right to me and I'm hoping someone on this board has a suggestion.
a) I'm stranded here on vacation w/o a car.
b) If the car isn't ready, I'll have to pay for part of a rental, drive 6+ hours back home, then drive 12+ hours round trip to get my car back next week ... also losing an extra day of work.
c) The car was just in for service, shouldn't this problem been detected?
Shouldn't Saab customer service be doing a bit more to help me out? It's 5pm and I haven't heard back from anybody today.
Advice, help, sympathy of any sort appreciated.
Thanks all,
Nemo
