Your C900 probably had the steering rack hard bolted to the subframe. So there was a rigid relationship between the rack and the suspention bushes etc.
Now the NG900's bolted the steering rack to the firewall, and it deflects like the cookie sheet that it appears to be. The rack was mounted in rubber bushings for isolation purposes. When in 95.5 production they switched to the smaller fabricated steel rack from the perm mold aluminum one, they had a problem with the small rack diameter. The took a fatal short cut and did not redesign the clamping details, they just filled in the gap with a thicker rubber bushing. As a result, all NG's and 9-3's since have had the racks stuck in a large compliant mass of rubber, which really sucks.
You will find that the VRK will really make your steering performance increase. For me it felt like before, that only the outside tire was working the corners, and now both pull the vehicle around agressively!
95SET, 142000 miles
vrk, sas rear bar, mbc, pop-off valve, piston bpv, TBTC, T silencer out, konis, stock SE springs and wheels, viggen IC, K&N, funnel mod (very little of the this applies for 2000+ production!)
