Yes, I totally agree with you. I have a 1999 Viggen with Abbott Racing's modified ECU, Viggen Rescue Kit, and sports exhaust system. I also run 100 octane fuel to maximize the performance. I have had dueling encounters with BMW M3s (late 1990's models), a 2002 BMW M5, a BMW 540is, a BMW 540i, a late model Corvette, a late model Z28, an older model Porsche 928, a WRX, and modified imports. My Viggen kicked butt on the M3s, WRX, and modified imports. These were all mid-range accelerations runs on the highways where the Viggen shines. When we stomped on it, the Viggen pulled away with authority every time. With the 928, this was also a highway mid-range encounter (prior to my Abbott modifications). The 928 and I were pretty even; when he was in front of me, I was right on his rear; when he was behind me, I pulled open a small gap that he couldn't close. He gave me a thumbs up and acknowledged the Viggen. With the Corvette and Z28, it was from off-the-line. I was surprised because we were even...nose-to-nose from start through third gear redline. Rear wheel drive cars usually have the big advantage over a front wheel driver in standing start acceleration because of weight transfer. A number of factors could be playing here (such as a better start from off the line) but...I know I surprised the Z28 driver because he flashed a thumbs-up. The BMW 540i was also an off-the-line through third gear run in which I pulled slightly ahead but not by much (less than a 1/2 car length). The BMW 540is was another highway mid-range acceleration duel in which I was able to pull around and pass him (open highway with no one else around)...perhaps because he was in the wrong gear. But I notice I could also pull away from him a little when we were both side-by-side and stepped on it. And now, with the 2002 BMW M5, we drove through some twisties first. He actually initiated the duel and try to pass me on the outside of a curve. I dutifully punched it and pulled away in the turn and he cut back behind me. We negotiated more turns with him remaining behind me unable to pass. We then came to a stoplight where he lined up to my left. I got a great start off the line and pulled away in first. Redlined in second. He again had to get behind me since we were both making a right at the next light. We came up on traffic so that was that. I have to add that I have driven a 2002 M5 in the canyons and on the highway, and while it is an excellent automobile, I wasn't too blown away with it. The one car that really blew my mind and emotions was a 2002 Porsche 996 Turbo Tiptronic in which I had one hell of a ride. Now, that car is...WOW. I want one! Enjoy your Viggen!
