I think you need to go to Sweden to see for yourself. Most, Swedes are very law abiding drivers. It is a privelege to have a license, not to mention very costly to get a license and time-consuming. Gasoline is very expensive. Speeding tickets (and parking tickets for that matter) in Sweden, and Scandinavia in general, are VERY expensive.
That is not to say that some percentage of Swedes do indeed enjoy their turbos. But, it's not the norm.
I've driven the Autobahn, too. Some people do go 150 mph. Some go 100 mph. Others go 70 mph. What's your point here. It's not universally stated that everybody drives flat out on that road. Insurance companies have stated that they will not provide coverage in accidents where spped exceeds a certain level....
I'm glad you use Mobil 1 0W-40. For the record I use Mobil 1 in all my SAABS,and have for 20 years--- and most recently posted amazing mileage of 33.45 mpg on a 2002 9-3 SE AUTO transmission, utilizing Mobil 1 0W-30 !!. (I can't find 0W-40 in my area.)
The larger issue here from Mobil's point of view appears to be decisions of formulation according to global markets. http://www.mobil1.com
From reading the site material, you see they feel the marketing $$$ to sell 0W-30 in the USA instead of 0W-40. Except for Montana, with no daytime speed limits---running flat out 7,00rpms in Autobahn-style driving is limited.
My point was that in a trip to Scandinavia, SL classification oils, synthetic and dino, that typically fill the shelves in my local market: Wal-Mart, Target, Meijer, Pep-Boys, Autozone, NAPA.... to name some, were SH classification In Europe as I saw it.
I had a 1983 SAAB "base car" 8v H-engine that I drove 262,000+ US miles. Most of those miles were dino oil. I was on the self-administered oil analysis program. It never burned a quart in 5,000 miles. Sold it to a friend who put another 90,000 on it. His oil change intervals/habits were "whenever". Still never burned a quart in 5,000. The SAAB metallurgy has a great deal to do with it, too. I think this car is still running with 400,000 miles on it and sombody's teenage daughters first car.
With over a million SAAB miles behind the wheel....
Regards. TG
